- Reference #
- ICES-2237-0017
- Date adopted

- Description
- The person(s) who discover a celestial object have the option of naming the object. Provided the name is not vulgar or otherwise inherently offensive, and provided the appropriate forms are correctly filled out in a timely manner, the naming shall be valid and official. Should the inhabitants of a star system wish to change the name of their system, and provided they have an established, independent government, the name of the star system can be changed by a super-majority vote (at least 66% of those voting). Once such a vote has been verified, the star system can submit the name change forms and the name will be changed and become official in the ICES systems. The former name shall continue to be used in an unofficial capacity, and no future systems may be registered under any such former name.
