Bodegas
Bodegas is the largest city on Manhattan, the third planet in the Neue New York system. It is located just inland from Manhattoe, the capital city.
History
Bodegas is a densely-populated city founded as a trading settlement in 2524 by a group of about 350,000 settler refugees from the old city of New York on Earth. They arrived following the devastating meteor strike of 2473 in the Atlantic Ocean on Earth. This meteor strike devastated coastal cities in the North Atlantic region, including in and around New York City, where nearly 9 million inhabitants were killed. Bodegas Interstellar was founded by a group of the survivors in 2474, including the billionaire Kneele V. Mosure, an entrepreneur and technical genius.
A terraforming expedition was sent to Manhattan in 2478, and it completed its work by 2522 due to the similarity to Earth in climate and native flora and fauna found on the planet. The colonists were transported in ninety Voyager-class sphereships, each carrying between 3000 and 4000 passengers and associated cargo.
Geography
Bodegas is spread out along the coastal cliffs along the Munsee Sea and on both sides of the Manhattoe Peninsula. As the law strictly forbids any residences within the capital district city of Manhattoe, almost all of the people who work there live in Bodegas.
Commerce
The founders of Bodegas established a law when setting up the city stating that no retail business could contain more than 1000 m2 of floor space. They did this to keep businesses from growing too large and changing the feel of the neighborhoods in which they operated.
