It is located in the direction of NGC 6934, in a band of gas, dust, and stars between the Centaurus Arm and the Norma/Outer Arm of the Milky Way. It is approximately 1200 light years on its longest axis and about 1000 light years in diameter across its main "bubble".

Star systems

The following star systems are found in or near the Blue Oyster Nebula:

  • Blue Oyster – Located on the edgeward side of the nebula.
