Chiemi
Chiemi (知依實) is a starkind and daughter of Ekoha. She becomes good friends with the humans Vasiti Taake, Edward Kovel, and Adele Watanabe, and has a great influence on the history of humans after first meeting Vasiti in 2116 during the events of "Lagrange Contact" and shortly thereafter.
Description
From "Slingshot" (3159):
- "Chiemi was was nearly 30 meters long from nose to tail, with a long, flexible neck, two arms, a set of large, black wings, and powerful back legs on which she crouched. Her tail was nearly as long as her body. She looked like a cross between the Eastern and Western dragons of Earth mythology, though not so angular and with no hair or fur. Her features were smooth and rounded, her forward-facing eyes black with scarlet and orange pupils and round irises, her skin an abyssal black covered in thousands of small, transparent scales glittering in the bright lights of the airlock. The skin beneath the scales was hard to see as no light reflected from it."
Biography
Chiemi was born in the mountains near Nagasaki, Japan in 1933, and left Earth for space in 1947, first living with her mother on a small asteroid orbiting Earth-Sun Lagrange Point Two (the “Quiet Place Beyond the Nesting Grounds”) before moving in April 2115 to Earth-Sun Lagrange Point One (the “Quiet Place Before the Nesting Grounds”). She is considered a late teenager at the time of "Lagrange Contact" (when she meets Vasiti), a young adult when she works with Edward Kovel on his jump drive, and middle-aged when she meets Adele during the events of Lansiya Discovery.
Name
Her name literally means “reliable knowledge and truth” in Japanese. Her starkind name is unpronounceable for humans.
