Kimmalevoi

Kimmalevoi, or Kimma, can refer to two different groups in the Celestial Lance Universe: the original race, or the current political entity. Their home system is about 340 light years from Earth in the general direction of Bellatrix and Capella, though much higher above the Solar plane.

Etymology

The name "Kimmalevoi" is a Halfen word and is a combination of "kimazushii" and "malevolum", Japanese and Latin for "grumpy". It is unknown what they call themselves.

Original Kimmalevoi

The original Kimmalevoi are heavyset and tall (average about 6'5"). Their skin is dark grayish-brown and very rough. They have very little hair, mostly concentrated in a patch at the nape of the neck and very short. They are from a world with about 1.9x the mass of Earth but about the same size. They are known for being stubborn, gruff, arrogant, and difficult to deal with. They are generally not outright hostile, but if they get it in their minds that you are trying to take territory from them, they throw everything into destroying anything in the area they've claimed.

There are different factions and groups within the Kimmalevoi, and they don't all agree with each other. In fact, they often fight each other. These factions vary in coloration (some are lighter and some are darker), with differences in skin roughness and patterns. Several of the groups speak different languages from each other, though there is a "standard" language that many of them speak (to varying degrees).

Very few people outside of their slaves had seen an original Kimmalevoi. This is due to their general policy of "shoot first, don't ask questions" in their interactions with other races. This led to the Ohlakhira Shufteim to declare a policy of avoidance in order to prevent hostilities from occurring.

The original Kimmalevoi had a practice of abducting members of various races and using them as slaves. When they discovered Earth around 1000 BC, they found humans to be resilient and resourceful, and they quickly became their slaves of choice. Because the Halfen had colonies there and the Starkind also used it as a nesting ground, the original Kimmalevoi learned to sneak in and capture humans. Once humans achieved interstellar travel, the Kimmalevoi were responsible for many human starships that disappeared without a trace.

Current Kimmalevoi

About 10 years prior to the events in events in Hemelein Discovery, the humans and other slaves of the original Kimmalevoi revolted and carried out a campaign of genocide against the original Kimmalevoi. There are very few actual Kimmalevoi still in existence. The revolt was completely unexpected because of the arrogance and general feeling of superiority of the Kimmalevoi. Because of their reliance on the slaves to build and run everything, the slaves were able to build a network of communication amongst themselves and coordinate many of the original attacks during the revolution.

Taking advantage of the reclusiveness of the original Kimmalevoi, the former slaves took on the personas of their former masters and continued acting similarly to the original Kimmalevoi out of fear other races would come into the territories and put them back into slavery. Since they already knew how to build, maintain, and operate everything, they were able to effectively step into the void left by the deaths of the original Kimmalevoi with little difficulty.

Sadly, they continued the practice of abducting members of space-faring races by capturing their ships during various raids in remote locations.

Saoirse Watanabe, Adele's mother, was captured during one of these raids in 4120, just days prior to the revolution.
